INTRODUCING JESUS - I AM THE SON OF GOD

"The Good News is about GOD'S SON, JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD. As a man, He was born from the family of David. But through the Spirit of holiness HE WAS DECLARED TO BE GOD'S SON with great power by rising from the dead."                                                                                                    Romans 1:4&4 (NCV)

Jesus' life is broken up in 3 parts:

1. Old Testament (BC) is related to "scripture and prophecy" - in which Jesus lives in Heaven with His Father.

"In the beginning was THE WORD and the WORD WAS WITH GOD, and the WORD WAS GOD. He was with God in the beginning." John  1:1&2 (NIV)

"I, the Lord, called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and make you to be a COVENANT for the people; and a LIGHT for the Gentiles."                                                                                                                   Isaiah 42:6 (NIV)

2. The New Testament - 4 Gospels (AD: 30years).  Jesus is known as GOD'S SON, and His life involves his teachings, miracles, death and resurrection. Jesus stepped into people's lives - Jews and Gentiles - He brought "comfort to the anxious", "healing to the sick" and "joy to those who welcomed Him" into their lives. Jesus offered "love and mercy" to His enemies.

"Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in the synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the Kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness amomg people. News about Him spread all over Syria.....Large crowds came from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem and Judea, and the region across the Jordan followed Him."                                                                                                            Matthew 4:24&25 (NIV)

"We are going to Jerusalem, and everything that was written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. He will be delivered over to the Gentiles. They will mock Him, spit on Him and they will flog Him and KILL HIM. On the third day HE WILL RISE AGAIN." Luke 18:31-33  (NIV)

3. After Jesus' ascension - back to Heaven - God's Kingdom. His disciples served and led the Christians in the Early Church. We are still in His presence, as the Holy Spirit is in us, awaiting Jesus return, to take us to live with Him in Heaven.  The last book of Revelation tells us all these things from John, the disciples' dreams.

"My Father's House has many rooms; if it were not so, would I have not told you I that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I WILL COME BACK AND TAKE YOU TO BE WITH ME that you may also be where I am." John 14:2&3 (NIV)

"Men of Galilee", they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same JESUS, who has been TAKEN FROM YOU INTO HEAVEN, WILL COME BACK IN THE SAME WAY, YOU HAVE SEEN HIM GO INTO HEAVEN."   Acts 1:11 (NIV)

SON OF GOD

"And a voice from Heaven said: "THIS IS MY SON, WHOM I LOVE;  with Him I am well pleased." Matthew 3:17 (NIV)

When people first met Jesus , some loved Him and others were just curious. Some people were "honest skeptics", with real questions. In 30 years, Jesus had become famous. If you heard Him pray, it was like listening to someone talking to His Father. Jesus was "loving and faithful", and He was LOVED by HIS FATHER.

"Yes Lord", she replied, "You are the Messiah, THE SON OF GOD." John 11:27 (NIV)

Jesus makes a number of claims about Himself when it comes to being the Son of God

* I AM GOD'S SON.
* HE IS PREPARING HEAVEN FOR US.
* HE WILL TAKE US TO LIVE WITH HIM.
* HE IS THE ONLY WAY TO GOD.

We need to have a relationship with HIS FATHER, just as He had.  We need to continue to study and share GOD'S  WORD with others, we need to PRAY with Jesus, to His Father and we need to make a committment to stand with Jesus and to FOLLOW HIM, as  we too are heirs with Jesus, His children.

"The Spirit testifies with out Spirit that WE ARE GOD'S CHILDREN. Now, if we are children, then WE ARE HEIRS - heirs with GOD and co-heirs with CHRIST, if indeed we share with His sufferings in order that we may also SHARE IN HIS GLORY."                                                                                                 0
Romans 8:16 (NIV)

"Simon Peter answered: "You are the Messiah, the SON OF GOD," Matthew 16:16 (NIV)

"Then Nathaniel declared: "Rabbi, YOU ARE THE SON OF GOD, you are the King of Jesus" John 1:41  (NIV)

JESUS' TEMPTATION

"Tbe Spirit led JESUS into the desert to be TEMPTED by tbe devil. Jesus ate nothing for 40 days and night. After this He was VERY HUNGRY". Matthew 4:1&2 (NCV)

Before beginning His PUBLIc MINISTRY, Jesus went out in to the "rugged Judean hill country", to face a time of TEMPTATION with the devil. Jesus would prove Himself by "overcoming" these temptations. Jesus had fasted for 4 days in the wilderness, and was tired and hungry when the TEMPTER came "quoting OLD TESTAMENT Scriptures,."

TEMPATION 1: Turning Stones Into Bread

"If you are the Son of God, telling these stones to become bread."                            Matthew 4:3 (NASB)

After 40 days in the wilderness, Jesus was VERY HUNGRY. The devil knew this and thought it would be a good way to TEMPT JESUS. Jesus believed that God would provide for Him. He didn't have to PROVE HIMSELF. He later has his food supplied by HIS FATHER, but for now he would just WAIT.

"Man does not live on BREAD ALONE, but by EVERY WORD that comes from the MOUTH OF GOD." Matthew 4:4 (NIV)

TEMPTATION 2 - JUMP OFF THE TEMPLE.

"The devil led Jesus to the city of Jerusalem and put Him on a high place in the Temple. "If you are the SON OF GOD, jump down because it is written in Scripture: "He will put his angels chargeive you. They will CATCH YOU IN HIS HANDS, so that You will not HIT YOUR FOOT ON A ROCK."  Matthew 4:5&6 (NCV)

The Greek word for "TEST" is a PROMISE FROM GOD. We know that God would save Jesus, His Son, from HIS TEMPTATIONS. Like David, we know that God sent his angels to Jesus, as He does for us.

"You shall not put the Lord your God to the TEST." Matthew 4:7 (NASB)

TEMPATION 3 - Worship

"Satan said: "All these things I will give to YOU, if you fall down and WOSRSHIP me."     Matthew 4:9 (NASB)

Jesus responded to the devil's TEMPTATIONS with three Scriptures; the last being related to WORSHIP.  Like  the devil, Jesus quoted many verses from the Old Testament. We too are encouraged to WORSHIP THE LORD, not Satan.

"Go Satan, for it is written: "YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD and serve Him only"
Matthew 4:10 (NASB)

In the strength of the Holy Spirit, Jesus overcame Satan's temptations. Satan wanted to "divert" Jesus from his ministry.  But the "real target" of Satan's attacks,  as it is with us, is to break our relationship with God and His Son Jesus. But we too, like Jesus, can have the "final word", and be left in Jesus' PEACE.

"The devil left Jesus, and the ANGELS CAME and and took care of Him."                            Matthew 4:11 (NCV)

"I told you these things so that you can have PEACE IN ME. In this world you will have trouble, but BE BRAVE! I HAVE DEFEATED THE WORLD." John 16:33 (NCV)

JOHN THE BAPTIST BEGINS HIS MINISTRY - Jesus' Baptism

You probably wonder why I start each of my BLOGS with a Children's Song - well I guess it's because they are so easy to listen to, and the message can't get any simpler - "JESUS LOVES ME".

Well, I am finishing with my BAPTISM series, with Jesus' Baptism. John the Baptist was already filled with the Holy Spirit, and he knew that soon Jesus would come seeking HIS BAPTISM. John knew that Jesus didn't need to be baptized. He had no sins "to be washed away". John felt they he needed to be baptized by Jesus, for He was the Son of God, the Messiah.

"The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, "Look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world." John 1:29 (NIV)

JESUS' BAPTISM

Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John. But John tried to talk Him out of it: "I am the one who needs to be baptized by you", he said, "so why are you coming to me?" But Jesus said: "It should be done, for we must carry out all God requires." So John agreed to BAPTIZE HIM." Matthew 3:13-15  (NLT

Jesus subitted Himself to John's baptism, as a "symbol of immersion". He knew that it was His Father's will and he would be obedient to the "the ritual cleansing" , which "announced His ministry."

"Jesus enteed the waters of the Jordan River to be immersed. A host of Jesus' disciples and other witnesses were looking on and welcoming the affirmation of His Father's blessing. The SPIRIT OF GOD appeared like a DOVE ascending on Jesus with his booming voice: "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."
                                                                         Charles Swindoll

"After HIS BAPTISM, Jesus came up out of the water, the Heavens were opened and He saw the Spirit of God DESCENDING LIKE A DOVE and settling on Him. And a voice from Heaven said: "This is my DEARLY LOVED SON who brings me GREAT JOY."                                                                                             Matthew 3:16&17 (NLT)

"As He was PRAYING the heavens opened, and the Holy Spirit, in bodily form, descended on Him like a dove." Luke 3:21b & 22a (NLT)

The DOVE is a symbol of PEACE. Only Luke speaks of JESUS PRAYING, but we know that this was a witness to others, and the "revelation from Heaven", that he was GOD'S SON and very loved. We too need to spend each day in PRAYER, reminding ourselves that we are filled with PEACE from the SPIRIT.

God's voice from Heaven, also reminds us that as His children too, we are LOVED. Te Apostle Paul reminds us:

"For His Spirit joins with our Spirit, that we are GOD'S CHILDREN." Romans 8:16 (NLT)

"And this hope will not lead us to disappointment, for we know how dearly GOD LOVES US, because He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with HIS LOVE."                                                                                                   Romans 5:5 (NLT

JOHN THE BAPTIST'S BEGINS HIS MINISTRY - HOLY SPIRIT

"When the ADVOCATE comes, whom I will send from the Father - the SPIRIT OF TRUTH who goes out from the Father - He will testify about me. And you also must TESTIFY, for you have been with me from the beginning." John 15:26&27 (NIV)

When I was in High School, the favourite things I loved doing were performing in the School Musicals and sharing my faith - the Word of God - with others. In those days, we didn't have BLOGS or FACEBOOK, but we did have Youth Groups at Church, and Bible Studies with Youth for Christ.  What I wanted to do most was to go to Bible College.

Unfortunately, I failed my Year 12 exams, and consequently was not accepted. I also believe the Bible College my Mum and Dad attenbded had closed down. So, I took up my second passion, and joined the Covenant Players - a travelling Theatre Group. I travelled around Australia, performing in different Churches (denominations).

One day, I attended a Catholic Church with one friend. I had always taken communion, but my friend told me it was "not acceptable" for me to do this with her. Instead, I stayed in my seat and prayed. It was here I received the "Gift of the Spirit - TONGUES". I didn't tell anyone at first - not sure I'd be accepted; but I told my Dad, as I knew he would approve. This had been something I had been praying about.

"Do not leave Jerusalem but wait for the gift of my FATHER'S PROMISE, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be BAPTIZED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT." Acts 1:4&5 (NIV)

I couldn't keep my secret for too long - I was so full of JOY! I just wanted to share it with others.

BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

So, what is BAPTISM of the HOLY SPIRIT? As John Bevere tells us, "It is a separate experience" by which a Christian ("a believer")  is filled by the Holy Spirit.   We are "overwhelmed" in His presence, and the Holy Spirit which "empowers" us to go forth, like the disciples sharing the Gospel.

"But you will RECEIVE POWER when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of tbe earth."  Acts 1:8 (NIV)

"All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them." Acts 2:4 (NIV)

What I remember most about my Holy Spirit - speaking in tongues experience - was how closer I became in my relationship with Jesus. The baptism of fire was an experience that "boosted" my FAITH and PRAYER LIFE. I developed  a great desire to continue in my ministry and service in the Church and as a teacher in the world.

"Even as Peter was saying these things, the HOLY SPIRIT fell upon all who were listening to the message. The Jewish believers who came with Peter that the GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT had been poured out on the Gentiles too. For they heard them SPEAKING IN OTHER TONGUES and praising God." Acts 10:44-46 (NLT)ll

"After me comes One who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will BAPTIZE YOU WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THE FIRE."           Matthew 3:11b. (NIV)

"Lord, thank you for giving us the HOLY SPIRIT, to refine us and give us peace. You assured us of Your love as His children. Help us to walk in step with YOUR SPIRIT  and with FIRE." Nicky Gumbel

The BAPTISM OF FIRE represents PURIFICATION. When BAPTZED IN THE HOLY SPIRIT we are REFINED.  It is referred to as an element SUFFERING, and it is used to strengthen our FAITH.

The Holy Spirit gives us His attention, His presence and His gifts. It cannot be EARNED, it must be RECIEVED, with DESIRE, ASKING and BELIEF.  Does it get any better than that? " John Bevere

JOHN THE BAPTIST BEGINS HIS MINISTRY - BAPTISM

When I was baptized, back in 1971, I was only a child. My father had brought me up believing that Jesus was my best friend, but I was truly wanting to be obedient to His will, I needed to be BAPTIZED, both in the WATER and in the HOLY SPIRIT (which for me came later in ministry)

"Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance, faith toward God, of the doctrine of BAPTISMS."  1  Hebrews 6:1&2a   (NKJV)

"Notice the word "BAPTISMS" are used in the plural....... we learn that there are different types of BAPTISM. Baptism is from the Greek word: "BAPTIZO", which means to "IMMERSE, SUBMERGE, SATURATE and to be OVERWHELMED" - it involves the WHOLE BODY, transforming from repentance and faith - a total transitional experience,. With this understanding  we can appreciate the significance of each BAPTISM." John Bevere

John the Baptist's WATER BAPTISM was of repentance and later with Jesus.

WATER BAPTISM

"The washing of Baptism was a cleansing for both Jews and Gentiles - when they confessed their sins and returned to God." Pat & David Alexander

"People from Jerusalem and all Judea, and all over the Jordan Valley went to see John. And when they confessed their sins, he baptized them in the Jordan River."
                                                                   Matthew 3:5&6  (NLT)
This week, Mark and I decided to take our new puppy for his walk in a park for small dogs. She had the time of her life (and so did Mark). As I sat watching them,it reminded me of a special place in the Bible, where John the Baptist began his ministry. The park was called "Jordan Springs", and although it didn't look like desert where John did his first ministry, it brought to mind His prophecy:

"I BAPTIZE you with water, but here in the crowds is someone you do not recognize. Though His ministry follows mine, I am not worthy to even be His slave and to untie the straps of his sandals." This encounter took place in Bethany, an area East of the Jordan River, where John was baptizing." John 1:27-29  (NLT)

This BAPTISM of IMMERSION in WATER, is one of "belonging". We first become as adopted children into God's family.

"To all who accepted (received) Him, to those who believed in in His Name, He gave the right to become children of God." John 1:12 (NIV/NLT)

WATER BAPTISM is a "declaration" of repentance and faith. We are not only giving up our sinful nature, but we are starting a new life in Christ. WATER BAPTISM is symbolic of Jesus's death and resurrection.

"For we died and were buried with Christ BY BAPTISM. Just as Christ was raised from the dead by His glorious power of the Father, now we also may LIVE NEW LIVES." Romans 6:4 (NLT)

"And now this WATER symbolizes BAPTISM that now SAVES YOU also - not the removal of dirt from the body, but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It SAVES YOU by the resurrection of Jesus Christ." 1 Peter 3:21 (NIV)

WATER BAPTISM is our first opportunity, as a child of God, to "HONOUR AND OBEY" Jesus, our Saviour. Every Christian needs to make a decision for themselves to be baptized; it is not something someone does for you. It helps to do a Baptismal Course, so you can truly understand why you are being baptized.

When I was baptized as a young child, I believed I understood what I was doing. As I grew up, my faith grew. Not a lot changed in my earthly life - I  was still bullied at school and their were many days I felt rejected and unloved.  But my spiritual life was different - I loved reading my Bible and spending time with my Father God and Jesus, but most of all, I had a great desire to share this JOY of knowing Him, with others.  I'll tell you more about that in my next BLOG.

"Water baptism is complete immersion into Christ - a publicly declaring death to our old way of life and a commitment to God's way of life." John Bevere

"So in Christ, we are all children of God through FAITH, for all of you were BAPTIZED into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ."                                                                                          Galatians 3:26&27   (NIV)

JOHN THE BAPTIST BEGINS HIS MINISTRY - REPENTANCE

Mark is the smallest Gospel, and he loves sharing about John the Baptist's ministry. In these next few BLOGS we will be looking at John's ministry of REPENTANCE, BAPTISM and the HOLY SPIRIT - all that the Lord had called him to. He began this GOOD NEWS with John's preaching of repentance and baptism, and the Holy Spirit, in prepation for "JESUS IN ACTION".

John the Baptist was the son of Zechariah and Elizabeth, and Jesus' cousin. He was a humble man who submitted to the will of God. He wasn't concerned with popularity. All he wanted to do was prepare the way to Jesus Christ - the Messiah.

"This is the beginning of the GOOD NEWS about Jesus, the Son of God, as the prophet Isaiah wrote: "I will send my messenger ahead of You, who will prepare your way." Malachi 3:11 (NCV)

"This is the VOICE of the one who calls out in the DESERT. Prepare the way of the Lord. Make the road straight for you." Isaiah 40:3 (NIV)

Like Isaiah the prophet, John wore simple clothing and ate simple food. He was the forerunner of Christ, sent by God who promised to send His Son, the King of Kings.

Mark, the author of this Gospel was the brother of Barnabas, and like all the disciples he knew that Jesus loved him.

"Look, I am sending MY MESSENGER ahead of You. HE WILL PREPARE THE WAY, as the voice shouting in the wilderness, "PREPARE THE WAY OF THE LORD'S COMING. Clear the road for Him." Mark 1:2&3 (NLT)

REPENTANCE

"John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of REPENTANCE for the REMISSION OF SINS." Mark 1:4 (NKJV)

"TRUE REPENTANCE occurs when we realize our sinful nature and a need for a SAVIOUR. Repentance should change the way we live. It is not just a CHOICE TO WALK AWAY FROM SIN, but to TURN TO GOD. We must give Him the Lordship of our lives. The moent you do this, God delivers you from the realms of darkness, and transfers you to the light and glory of His Kingdom" John Bevere

John's baptism of REPENTANCE was the calling of God's people (the Jews)  - changing their minds and turning away from sin, towards God. REPENTANCE gives us freedom and forgiveness, and we can start over with Jesus, as our Saviour.

"The time promised has come at last!" he announced, "THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS  NEAR! Repentance of your sinsand believe the GOOD NEW" Mark 1:15 (NLT)

"And all people will see GOD'S SALVATION." Luke 3:6 (NIV)

John the Baptist explained what it meant to "PRODUCE FRUIT WITH REPENTANCE." He wanted people to show KINDNESS, GENEROSITY AND HONESTY in their daily lives. Repentance should lead to GOOd FRUIT.

"Anyone who has TWO SHIRTS should share them with those who have none...... John tells the Tax Collectors: "Don't collect any more than you are required to......John tells the soldiers, "Don't extort money and don't accuse people falsely and be content with your pay".    Luke 3:11, 13 & 14b (MSG)

John the Baptist was not just a preacher of "social righteousness", but his ministry was on behalf of Jesus Christ - the Messiah.

Peter's words on the day of PENTECOST, was instructing us to "REPENT OF OUR SINS AND TURN TO GOD."  In John the Baptist's ministry, Peter's and Paul's and of course Jesus' teaching,  we are encouraged to REPENT, and to  embrace SALVATION.

"For godly sorrow PRODUCES REPENTANCE leading to SALVATION, and leaves no regret, but wordly sorrow brings death." 2 Corinthians 7:10  (NIV)

"Or do you despise the riches of HIS GOODNESS, FORBEARANCE AND LONG SUFFERING (kind, tolerant and patience) not knowing that the GOODNESS OF GOD leads you to REPENTANCE." Romans 2:4 (NKJV/NLT)

THE MIRACLE OF THE SAVIOUR'S BIRTH - Part 3

1. WE THREE KINGS

It is not known when the WISE MEN (MAGI) came to see JESUS, but we do know he had grown up. We do know that Matthew was the only one to tell this story in His gospel.

"They entered the house and saw the child with His mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped Him. They opened their treasure chests and gave Him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh."  Matthew 2:11 ( NLT)

There are three parts to this passage in Matthew 2. We not only meet the "Three Kings", but also two others: King Herod and King Jesus.

A). These three Kings (Magi), were from the ORIENT, and the STAR they saw in the EAST led them to the Jesus, the King of Kings, a little boy in Bethlehem.

"Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herood. About that time, some wise men from Eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem." Matthew 2:1 (NLT)

But, firshey went to King Herod, believing that he would know about the newborn King of the Jews? They had seen a star in the sky, and they wanted to come and WORSHIP HIM.

 B) After their meeting with Herod, who asked them to go and find this child, who had been born in Bethlehem. He wanted them to come back to see him, so he could go and worship too.

They gave GIFTS to Jesus, not just because he was a special little boy, but because they knew he was a KING. When they saw the STAR again, over the "place where the child lay", they were "filled with joy".

"When it was time to leave, they returned to their own countryside, they returned to their own country by another route, for God had warned them in a dream not to retutn to Herod." Matthew 2:12 (NLT)

C). Joseph was also told in a dream to go to Egypt with his wife and child. Like we read earlier, Matthew was a faithful husband and a loving father.

Herod had been furious and sent out his soldiers to kill all the baby boys in Bethlehem. This fulfilled what Jeremiah had prophesied: "A cry was heard in Ramah - weeping and groaning, and great mourning."

After Herod had died, Joseph had another dream, and a message from God to take his family back to Nazareth, to fulfill another prophecy: "He was called a Nazarene."

"This fulfilled what the Lord had spoken to the prophet: "I called my Son out of Egypt." Matthew 2:15b (NLT)

Mary and Joseph were full of joy, watching their son grow up. He was filled with "wisdom and strength. " We know little of his childhood, but he did grow "in grace and truth". We too can see the character of Jesus, our Saviour, and we can endeavour to follow Him and live as He lived.

2. JESUS TEACHES IN THE TEMPLE

Luke tells us of Jesus' "bar mitzah" , as he came with his parents to the Passover. As there were other family members.  They started on their way home from Jerusalem, when they realized Jesus wasn't with them, and they started to worry.

"When he didn't show up that evening, they started looking for him among their relatives and friends. When they couldn't find him, they went back to Jerusalem, to search for him there." Luke 2:44&45 (NLT)

We know that Jesus had been with his family to the Temple in Jerusalem, during the Passover. He had probably listened to the Phariees, Saducees and Zealots. The Pharisees and Saducees were the leaders in the  Temple, and the Zealots were "inspirational, freedom fighters".  Jesus knew, from his Father that they were not great leaders, but he wanted to meet them for Himself.

"Three days later Mary and Joseph finally discovered him in the Temple, sitting around the religious teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his questions." Luke 2:46&47 (NLT)

Jesus had been growing in wisdom, and even as a child he wanted to have "intimacy" with his Father God. He also wanted to "listen and learn from others". When Mary and Joseph found him in the temple, they were a little angry, but also relieved.

"Mary: "Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been frantic, looking for you everywhere?"

Jesus: "Why did you need to search? Didn't you know that I must be in My Father's house?" " Luke 2:48&49 (NLT)

They didn't really understand what he meant. He wasn't trying to disrespect his parents, but he knew that he had a relationship with His Father. He knew He needed to learn and grow, closer to Him, so He could do the work His Father wanted Him to do.

"Then he returned to Nazareth with his parents, and was obedient to them..... Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and people".
                                                                                      Luke 2:52&52 (NIV)

This is a prayer that we can pray for our children, as they grow with in an "imtimate relatioship" with Jesus, and His Father. For they are the "foundation for spiritual wisdom".

"Thank you Lord that we can have a spiritual adoption into Your family. Help us to grow in intimacy and obedience as CHILDREN OF GOD. Through your Spirit we can grow to be more like you, Jesus, in wisdom and favour with your Father God."                                                                                       Nicky Gumble

THE MIRACLE OF THE SAVIOUR'S BIRTH - Part 2

1. THE SHEPHERDS AND THE ANGELS (Luke 2:8-20)

Nahum Tate wrote this hymn in the 1700's, based on Luke 2: 8-20, "The Shepherds and the Angels". The angels came and presented the Good News of Jesus's birth to the Shepherds. They not only told of Jesus Christ - the baby, but also the SAVIOUR. This was another of God's promises. This is an amazing TRUTH that we have today. We too can celebrate the MIRACLE of Jesus' birth and his gift of SALVATION.

"That night there were shepherds staying in the fields, glĺuarding their flocks of sheep. Suddenly, angels of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord's glory surrounded them. They were terrified, but the angels reassured them, "Don't be afraid. I bring you good news that will bring GREAT JOY to ALL PEOPLE. The SAVIOUR - yes, THE MESSIAH, the LORD - has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! You will be recognize Him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger."  (Luke 2:7-12) (NLT)

When the angels left, the shepherds quickly made their way to Bethlehem to see, the baby Jesus.

After their visit, the Sheperds returned to their sheep. Like the angels, they too, glorified and praised God, telling others about who they had seen - the baby JESUS - THEIR SAVIOUR.

"Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought about them often."                                                                                                                  Luke 2:19 (NLT)

2. JESUS PRESENTED AT THE TEMPLE

On the 8th Day, after Jesus' birth, Mary and Joseph took Him to the temple to be     circumcised" and dedicated to His0 Father. There  were two special people (p
in the Temple, who had been waiting for Him.

a) SIMEON'S BLESSING

On their way to the Temple Mary and Joseph met with an elderly "seer" named Simeon.  Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was earerly waiting for the coming Messiah to come and rescue Israel. The Holy Spirit was upon Him and it had been revealed to him that he would not die until he had seen the Messiah.

Simeon pronounced a blessing upon Mary and Joseph, and told then that their Son had a special purpose, and he would be the Saviour of the world. Simeon took Jesus in his arms and prayed:

"Sovereign Lord, let your servant die in peace, as you have promised. I have seen your SALVATION, which you have prepared for all people. He is a LIGHT to reveal God to the nation's, and He is the glory of your people Israel." Luke 2:29-32 (NLT)

"We can see the GLORY, the GLORY of the one and only SON, who came down from the Father, full of grace and truth" John 1:46 (NIV)

" Lord give us eyes like Simeon's, to see JESUS' SALVATION, GRACE, WISDOM AND TRUTH. Being close to Jesus, brings us a BLESSING. " Nicky Gumble

b) The Prophecy of Anna

Anna was another Prophet and a widow,  who spent many days in the Temple -"day and night, worshipping, fasting  and praying." Anna was 84 years old. When she heard Simeon blessing Marg, Joseph and the baby Jesus, she started "praising God" and sharing the joy of their SAVIOUR, JESUS CHRIST.

"Many Scriptures speak of the JOY OF THE LORD. Christ's coming was a gift to all the world. He is our SAVIOUR and HOPE. We rejoice in the GRACE of His coming, and the power of HIS SALVATION. JOY TO THE WORLD indeed!" , Tyndale House

THE MIRACLE OF OUR SAVIOUR'S BIRTH - Part 1

This would have to me my favourite Christmas Song for this new generation. I have so many Christmas hymns, it is hard to choose, but I will have at least 3 BLOGS that I have put together about the "miracle of our Saviour's birth", so I will share more of my favorites.

1) TRAVELLING TO BETHLEHEM - Luke 2:1-5

Let's start with Mary and Joseph's trip to Bethlem! Unlike Mary, Joseph didn't receive his angelic visit till later. He was looking forward to marrying Mary, settling down to a dream for their furure. Mary and Joseph were a young couple from Nazareth, who had recently exchanged their marriage vows, and Mary was due to give birth to her baby.

Luke tells us about the Census from the Roman Emporer. As they were from a Jewish family, they needed to travel to Bethlehem for the Census.

"At that time a Roman Emperor, Augustus, decreed that a census should be taken throughout the Roman Empire.....All returned to their own ancestral towns to register for the Census. Because Joseph was a descendent of King David, , he had to go to Bethlehem in Judah, David's ancient home. He travelled there from the village of Nazareth in Galilee."         Luke 2:1, 3&4 (NLT)

"Christ was born in a little town of Bethlehem, without much ado, except the angels singing. God too, meets with us in ordinary places. Philip Brooks wrote this song for children, during a Christmas play, in 1867. He had recently mad a trip to the Holy Land, and this was an inspired memory.....We are grateful that we are never alone, but Jesus is always meeting with us with the mundane of life." Sara Perry

"Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call Him Immanuel."  Isaiah 7:14 (NIV)

2. MARY GIVES BIRTH TO JESUS - Luke 2:6&7

I used to love Christmas, going to Church for the Christmas story. My sister Mary was always in the Christmas Play, and guess who she was.  Sometimes I played  Innkeeper or shepherd. My little sister was an angel!

My favourite part was when I showed Mary and Joseph to the barn, for as you know, "there was no room in the Inn". I loved watching Mary holding the baby Jesus.  Even as a child, I loved Jesus! I somehow knew, even then, that He was someone special!

"While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born. She gave  birth to her first born son. She wrapped Him snugly in strips of cloth and laid Him in a manger, because there was no lodging a available for them." Luke 2:6&7 (NLT)

"But when the set time had fully come, GOD SENT HIS SON, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship." Galatians 4:4&5 (NIV)

CHRIST'S BIRTH is only the beginning of this story, the first part of this miracle. Let us continue with the CELEBRATION of the theses HUMBLE beginnings.

A PROMISE TO MARY, ELIZABETH and their HUSBANDS - Part 2

As we read in the last BLOG, Mary and Elizabeth, and their husbands, Joseph and Zechariah, were chosen as SPECIAL PARENTS and they were given a promise from God, through the angel Gabriel, that their sons would be a "joy and delight" to them, and many people would rejoice because of their births. We too can take hold of these promises, and accept the wonderful joy and peace that comes from knowing our Saviour and Friend.

"Oh, how my soul praises the Lord. How my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour! For He took notice of His lowly servant girl, and from now on all generations will call me blessed. For the Mighty One is holy, and he has done great things for me. He shows mercy from generation to generation, to all who fear Him." Luke 1:46-50  (NLT)

"Praise the Lord, the God of Israel, for He has visited and redeemed His people. He has sent us a Mighty Saviour from the royal line of his servant David......And you, my little son, will be called the prophet of the Most High, because you will prepare the way for the Lord. You will tell His people how to find salvation through forgiveness of their sins." Luke 1:65-69, 76&77  (NLT)

1. MARY VISITS ELIZABETH (Luke 1:39-56)

Mary and Elizabeth were both "highly favoured by God". Both were faithful Jewish women, both filled with the Holy Spirit.

When Mary went to visit her cousin Elizabeth, baby John, "inside her womb, leapt for joy".

"Blessed are you among women, blessed is the child you will bear. I am favoured that the mother of the Lord should come to me." Luke 1:42-43 (MSG)

Mary and Elizabeth were both blessed, for they believed that JESUS WAS THE SON OF GOD, and  indeed their SAVIOUR and MESSIAH. This is what the angel had given them as God's promises.

"Lord, how my soul praises You. How my Spirit rejoices in God, my Saviour....for the Mighty One is holy and He has done great things for me." Luke 1:46&48 (NLT)

These faithful, beautiful women were trusting in their Father God. They both "treasured God's promises" in their hearts.

"Thank you Lord for MARY and ELIZABETH, and their extraordinary faith. They believed everything was possible. Lord, we too want to trust in our Saviour, JESUS CHRIST. We want to have FAVOUR with you, and YOUR SPIRIT in us " Nicky Gumbel.

"For with God, nothing will be impossible" Luke 1:37 (NKJV)

Mary stayed with Elizabeth for 3 months, probably till John's birth, then she returned home to Joseph, to prepare for the birth of her own  son, JESUS.

2 . THE BIRTH OF JOHN THE BAPTIST

The birth of Elizabeth's and Zechariah's baby John was a great "celebration". The community shared their "expectation and joy". Their baby boy was a great blessing to the elderly couple. The name John meant: "The Lord is a GRACIOUS GIVER". But many people - their friends and family - still, wondered by they chose the name John.

"When the time came for Elizabeth to have her baby, she gave birth to her son. Her neighbours and relatives heard that the Lord had shown them great MERCY and they shared her JOY."                                                                                                        Luke 1:57-58 (NIV)

On the 8th day, when the baby boy was to  be circumcised, they thought they would name him after his father Zechariah, but Mary spoke up: "No, he will be called John." Zechariah's  mouth was then opened, and he started speaking, confirming what Elizabeth had said.

"His Father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied: "Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because He has come to His people and redeemed them.....And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High, and you will go on and prepare the way for Him, to give the people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of sins". Luke 1:67&68, 76&77 (NIV)

"And the child grew and became strong in spirit. He lived in the wilderness until he appeared publicly to Israel." Luke 1:80 (NIV)
