JESUS - THE HEALER: Jairus' Daughter and a Sick Woman

Jesus had great power over illness. People came to him from everywhere seeking his help and he was able to heal them. 

                   5. HEALING JAIRUS DAUGHTER AND A SICK WOMAN
                       Read  Matthew 9:18-26, Mark 5:21-43, Luke 8:40-56

In this next passage we are reading of two people who had GREAT HUMILITY AND FAITH - but they were both very different lifestyles:

1. A father with a sick daughter, who was dying. Jairus was a prominent leader in the Synagogue.

2. A woman who had a "bleeding illness" for 12 years, and was in a lot of pain. She hadn't  been getting.

They both knew that if they BELIEVED that if they could SEEK JESUS He would be their HEALER!

"When Jesus went back to Galilee, a crowd waited for Him. A man named Jairus , a leader in the Synagogue, came to Jesus and fell at his feet, begging Him for help. He said: "My little daughter is about to die! Please come and touch her, so she will get well and live." Jesus went with Jairus. Many people followed along and kept crowding around." Mark 5:21-23 (NIV/CEV)

"In the crowd was a woman who had been bleeding for 12 years. She had gone to many doctors and they had not done anything except cause a lot of pain. She had paid them all the money she had. But instead of getting better, she only got worse. The woman had heard about Jesus, so she came up behind Him in the crown and barely touched his clothes. She said to herself: "If I can just touch His clothes, I will be healed." As soon as she touched them, her bleeding stopped, and she knew she was healed." Mark 5:26-29  (CEV)

Jesus felt a "surge of his healing power". His disciples wondered why he asked why someone had touched him. There were people "pressing all around Him".  Just like Jairus had done in the synagogue, the woman humbly fell at his feet, and told him what had happened. Jesus said to her: "Daughter, take courage, YOUR FAITH HAS MADE YOU WELL." 

A "warm glow" came over the woman, for she knew she had been HEALED AT LAST. After 12 years of suffer, her anemia was ended.  

Jesus, took hold of Jairus hand, and with his disciples he continued on to his house, to heal his 12 year old daughter. When they returned to his home, they came to tell her father that she had died. Jesus continued inside the house.

"Then Jesus went inside and said to them: "Why are you crying and weeping? This child isn't dead, she's only asleep."...... Holding her hand, he said to her, "Talitha kowm," which means, little girl, get up".  And the little girl, who was 12 years old, stood up immediately and walked  around! They were overwhelmed and amazed."                                                                                                     Mark 5:39, 41-42 (NLT)

Her eyes "fluttered", and she sat up. Her parents hugged her with "tears in their eyes", with joy. Jesus smiled and told them to give her something to eat. 

Just like the little girls parents and the woman who followed Jesus, we need to be encouraged and never lose hope when we are overcome with an sickness. The first thing we need to do is "kneel down before Jesus" and PRAY, and  with anticipation, trust Him to do do His will on our lives - and simply have FAITH FOR HEALING!

JESUS THE HEALER - Healing on the Sabbath

                         2. HEALING A MAN WITH A DEFORMED HAND

                                        Read Mark 3:1-6, Luke 6:6-1

   "Jesus went into the synagogue again and noticed a MAN WITH A DEFORMED HAND.  Since it was a Sabbath, Jesus' enemies watched him closely. If HE HEALED THE MAN'S HAND they planned to accuse Himof working in the Sabbath."                                                                                                                          Mark 3:1-2 (NLT)

Jesus asked a question: "Is it lawful to do GOOD DEEDS on the SABBATH." Is it a  day for SAVING LIVES or losing them?  He wants them to know that He is "Lord of the Sabbath". 

"Then he said to the man, "Hold out your hand." So the man held out his hand and it was restored! At this the enemies of Jesus were wild with rage and began to discuss what they would do with Him." Luke 6:10&11 (NLT)

                        3. HEALING A WOMAN WITH A BENT BACK

                                              Read  Luke 13:10-17

" Jesus was teaching one day on the Sabbath. A woman was there who, for 18 years had been crippled by an evil spirit. Her back was always bent and she could not stand up straight. When Jesus saw her, he called her over. He put His hands on her immediately and said, "You are healed of your sickness". She was instantly able to stand up straight. How she praised God." Luke 13:10-13 (CEV/NLT)

Only Luke tells this story of a woman who was diagnosed by a doctor with crippling arthritis. Jesus' compassion led to his immediate HEALING. Yet He still had clashes with the Pharisees, because of His healing on the Sabbath. 

                           4. HEALING A MAN WITH AN EVIL SPIRIT

                                                 Read Mark 5:1-20

"When Jesus climbed out of the boat in the region of the Gerasenes, a man possessed by an evil spirit came out of a tomb to meet Him......Day and night he wandered among the burial caves in the hills, howling and cutting himself with sharp stones. When Jesus was still some distance away, the man ran to meet Him and bowed down before Him: He screamed: "WHAT DO YOU WANT WITH ME, JESUS, SON OF THE MOST HIGH GOD?" Jesus said to Him, "COME OUT OF THIS MAN, YOU IMPURE SPIRIT." Mark 5:2, 5-8  (NIV/NLT)

Jesus' power over evil spirits became exciting news. After he the "legion of demons" went into the "pigs" , they ran into the lake and drowned. At first they begged Jesus to get into his boat and to leave their district. Later, other people began to seek Him for healing and Jesus offered them HOPE ANND NEW LIFE.

JESUS - THE HEALER - Healing A Paralyzed Man

 

After Jesus came down, after his time of temptation, He met with He began calling his disciples, and started out his journey of HEALING and FORGIVENESS.

"Jesus answered them, "It is not the healthy who need doctor, but the SICK. I have not come to call the RIGHTEOUS, but the sinners to REPENTANCE."                                                                                                                        Luke 5:31&32 (NIV)

Matthew (Levi) was one one of the first Jesus had called, after the fishermen, Simon Peter, Andrew, James and John. Matthew knew he had been a sinner, so when Jesus forgave Him, he got up and left his job as a tax collector to follow Jesus, just as the fishermen did to become "fishers of men".

We tend to take HEALING for granted - it is AMAZING - but FORGIVENESS is even more AWESOME. Why? Because, we need the authority of Jesus and His Father. 

 When it comes to HEALING we see Jesus as a MIRACLE WORKER. We need to keep our eyes on Jesus and "His supernatural power".  HEALING begins when we reach out and PRAY, when we step out in FAITH. Jesus can walk with you through all the pain and "storms" of life. 

"In what ways do people experience Jesus' power in their lives? What is the purpose of JESUS' MIRACLE WORKING? What are the rewards of faith in JESUS AS HEALER, SAVIOUR AND LORD? How is worship an expression of your faith? Worship is a voluntary act of gratitute offered to our Saviour and Healer, to whom one day we will stand before."  Max Lucado

                                           1. HEALING A PARALYZED MAN
                                              Read Mark 2:1-12, Luke 5:17-26

"A few days later when Jesus entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come. They gathered in such a large number that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. Some men came, bringing to Him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them." Mark 2:1-3 (NIV)

This PARALYZED MAN had some caring friends, whose faith led them to take him to Jesus. These four friends were unable to reach Jesus through the door of the house, so they went up to the roof, they took off the tiles and lowered their friend down to Jesus. 

"Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the man, "Young man, your sins are forgiven." Jesus said. "What is easier to say, "Your sins are forgiven, than to say, get up and walk?" Luke 5:20, 23 (NLT)

The Pharisees were very uncomfortable with Jesus' words. Jesus knew what they were thinking:

"I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority to forgive sins."So He said to the paralyzed man, "I tell you, get up, take up your mat and go home." Immediately, he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on and went home praising God." Luke 5:24&25 (NIV)

The paralyzed man was not only HEALED and was able to WALK , he was FORGIVEN.  Luke continued to tell us about the man's friends FAITH. It was this that "moved them" to take their friend to Jesus, and it was Jesus' GRACE that FORGAVE the man and led to HIS HEALING. 

Do you have a disability that robs you of your faith, or does it strengthen you? Remember, you don't need to "go it alone"! For Jesus is on your side! He and your friends will help you to "present your requests " to God, with Jesus' healing power. 

Jesus confirms His PROMISES OF FORGIVENESS and comfirms PEOPLE'S FAITH IN HIS HEALING POWER.
