THE FIRST DISCIPLES - Peter, Andrew, James and John

I have just finished my appointment with my wonderful psychologist - a beautiful woman of God - who encourages me not only with my mental health but my FAITH. Today she reminded me, after 60 years of mental health challenges, I AM A SURVIVOR! But why - because I have a SAVIOUR and FRIEND in JESUS CHRIST.

This new "boy band", has actually been around for years, but they now remind me of Jesus'  disciples (followers). They first lived their lives in the world - as famous performers in the world;  but now they are following Jesus as "fishers of men". Like Jesus' disciples, Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, Shane Filan and Mark Feehily, have left their fame and fortune, to take up their  greatest love to serve God as His "ministers" with worship.

"As Jesus walked beside the SEA OF GALILEE . He saw two brothers, SIMON, called PETER and his brother ANDREW. They were casting their nets into the lake, for they were fishermen. "COME FOLLOW ME", Jesus said, and "I WILL SEND YOU OUT TO FISH FOR PEOPLE. They left their nets and followed Him." Matthew 4:18-20(NIV)

Peter, Andrew, James and John  were the founding members of Jesus' Church - His new Kingdom. They were very close to Him, and great writers and evangelists.

1.ANDREW

Andrew had been a disciple of John the Baptist, and was Jesus' first disciple. He brought his younger brother Peter to Jesus. He is not mentioned a lot, like his brother, but he was born in Bethsaida near Galilee, and like Peter he was a fisherman and later became a great evangelist.

"The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, "We have found the Messiah (that is Christ), and he brought him to Jesus." John 1:41&42.      (NIV)

In the T.V show, "THE CHOSEN",  we see how Andrew was a good follower and friend of John the Baptist and went to visit him when he was in jail. Like Jesus he grieved when John was beheaded by Herod Antipas

Andrew was later persecuted in Greece,  for his faith and became a martyr, because he continued to preach, and he prayed for those who tormented him. He is the patron Saint of many European countries: Russia, Romania, Ukrain and Scotland,  having been crucified on what was to be known as St Andrew's Cross.

2. PETER (SIMON)

Peter's original name was Simon, yet Jesus changed it to PETER- THE ROCK.

"Jesus looked at Him and said: "You are Simon, the Son of John. You will  be called Cephas , (which, when translated is Peter). " John 1:42b (NIV)

Later Peter became an Apostle  and was the "chief" leader, who would build the early Church we read about in Acts. Peter's name is mentioned more often than any other disciple and is very "essential" to Jesus' story.

Simon Peter's wife is seen on the T.V's "The Chosen", but she is not mentioned in the Bible. His mother in law was healed by Jesus in Capernau,, and it is believed he left his wife to follow Jesus. In 1 Corinthians it is believed the Apostles had the right to take their wives on their missionary journeys.

"Do we have the right to bring a believing wife with us as the other Apostles and the Lord's brothers do, and as Peter does?" 1 Corinthians 9:5 (NLT)

The name Simon means to "listen and obey". When the disciples were at the Last Supper,  the night  before Jesus' betrayal, arrest and trial, He told his disciples that there would be a time when He would be alone, and they would let Him down. He specifically told Peter that three times he would deny Him.

"Simon Peter said to Him: "Lord, where are you going?"

Jesus answered: "Where I am going, you cannot follow Me, now, but you shall follow Me afterward."

Peter said to Him: "Why can I not follow you? I will lay down my life for your sake?"

Jesus answered him: "Will you lay down your life for My sake? Most assuuredly, I say to you, the rooster shall not crow till you have denied Me three times."           John 13:36-38 (NIV)

Peter indeed became a very faithful Apostle, spreading the Good News about Jesus to the Gentiles and guiding the early Chuch and us today.  According to Christian tradition, Peter was crucified upside down, in Rome under Emporer Nero. It is believed he did this because he still felt guilty for denying Jesus.

3. JOHN

John and his brother James were both fishermen, and had the nickname: "MEN OF THUNDER".  Why? They were "zealous and bold with fiery peronalities". Yet later, John's character was refined as the "the one whom Jesus loved"

"LOVE EACH OTHER. Just as I HAVE LOVED YOU, YOU SHOULD LOVE EACH OTHER. By this everyone will know that you are MY DISCIPLES, IF YOU LOVE ONE ANOTHER."   John 13:34&35 (NLT/NIV)

John was also a very LOVING and COMPASSIONATE disciple, and he talks about LOVE in His Gospel a lot. Why? Probably because it was an an important part of Jesus' teaching and ministry.  We too, like John, need to walk in JESUS LOVE, and treat others as He wanted his disciples to.

When Jesus was on the cross, dying, he asked John to take care of his mother Mary, for he was known as the "one Jesus loved". Why? It could have been that he was the only disciple who was "standing by his mother" at the cross. He had been a great companion with Jesus in His ministry, and Jesus knew he could be trusted to care for his "widow mother".

"When Jesus saw His mother and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby , he said to his mother, "Woman, behold your son". Then He said to the disciple, "Behold your mother!" And from that hour, the disciples took her to his home."                                                                                                                       John 19:26&27 (ESV)

It is also believed that John is the only disciple to have died a natural death. He was exiled to Patmos, because oof his faith. It was here he received his vision and wrote the book of Revelation. Eventually he returned to Ephesus, and wrote his Letters there. It is said he died peacefully, an old man  around 98AD.

4.  JAMES

"Going on from  there, He saw two brothers, James, Son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them and they immediately left their boats and followed Him."                                                                                                                    Matthew 4:21-22  (NIV)

Here we have the other "Son of Thunder". Why did Jesus give them this name? Well, both these brothers had "thunder like qualities". At one stage, when they were travelling through a Samaritan village, and they had some opposition:

"And when His disciples James and John saw it, they said: "Lord, do you want us to tell fire to come down from Heaven and consume them." Luke 9:54 (ESV)

James was a passionate speaker. Like his brother, he was bold and aggressive at times. As they spent more time with Jesus and listened to his teachings, they grew as faithful, loving followers.

James was the first Apostle put to death by King Herod. He was beheaded by the sword, about 44AD.

"It was about this time that King Herod arrested some who belonged to the Church, intending to persecute them. He had James, the brother of John, put to death by the sword." Acts 12:1&2 (NIV)

Every follower of Jesus had a "not so great before" life, but they became great preachers, changed lived with the Scriptures, amd devoted their lives to serving others. They were "precious to JESUS", and we too can live and love as His followers.

"Fear not, I have redeemed you. I have called you by name. YOU ARE MINE! When you pass through the waters, I WILL BE WITH YOU......... YOU ARE MY WITNESSES, says the Lord, and MY SERVANT whom I HAVE CHOSEN......I even I am the Lord, and beside me, THERE IS NO SAVIOUR." Isaiah 43:1,2a,10a,11 (NKJV)

THE WEDDING AT CANA - Jesus' First Miracle

The WEDDING IN CANA is the place where Jesus performed His first MIRACLE - turning WATER INTO WINE. Jesus, His mother, His friends and His family were invited to this wedding. It was in Jesus' hometown near Nazareth, and Jesus was enjoying Himself. Yet, the celebrations were not just ONE DAY. Jesus was having a joyous time over the the next few days.

"On the third day, there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Now both Jesus and His disciples  were invited to the wedding. When they ran out of wine. And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him: "They have no wine". John 2:1-3 (NKJV)

"It was during one of these festivities that Jesus' public ministry began. On the third day of the feast, as recounted in the Gospel of John, Jesus performed His first miracle, turning water into wine and revealing His glory in an extroadinary way." Pastor Carmelo Orlando

The most joyous monent was Jesus' response to His mother, when she came to tell him they had run out of wine and needed his help.  His tone was at first harsh: "Woman, why do you involve me? My hour has not yet come".

But Mary knew that Jesus' plans were "perfect". She not only believed He would follow God's will and perform a miracle, but she had faith in His "divine humility." She invites the servants to do everything that Jesus asks them to do.

"His mother said to the servants: "Do whatever He tells you."  Nearby stood six stone jars  the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing , each holding 20-30 gallons. Jesus said to the servants: "Fill the jars with water", to they filled them to the brim. Then he said to them, "Now draw some out  John 2:5-8 (NIV)

Jesus affirmed His Father's will, and He also witnessed to His disciples, "strengthening their faith".  The faith of the servants also "translated" and obedience.   This was a work of JOY. Everyone at the wedding was amazed at the miracle.

"The master of the feast, unaware of the miracle that had just occurred, tastes the wine and was struct by its extroadinary quality. The wine in this scene is not only a symbol of CELEBRATION AND JOY but represents the BLOOD OF CHRIST. "           Pastor Carmelo Orlando

"A host always serves the best wine first," he said. "Then when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine. But you have kept the best until now!" This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed His glory, and HIS DISCIPLES BELIEVED IN HIM."  John 2:10&11 (NLT)

INTRODUCING JESUS - I AM THE CORNERSTONE

                  CHRIST ALONE - THE CORNERSTONE

This is the last of my BLOGS this week - the final I AM. The "Cornerstone" was spoken of often in the Old and New Testament. David prophesied about Jesus, and so did Isaiah:

"The STONE the builders rejected and has become the CORNERSTONE."                                                                                                        Psalm 118:22 (NIV)

"So this is what the Sovereign Lord says: "See, I lay a STONE in Zion, a tested STONE, a PRECIOUS CORNERSTONE for a sure foundation. The one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic. " Isaiah 28:16 (NIV)

In the Gospels, and later other letters we are reminded of Jesus's FOUNDATION, which we need to build on our lives. The word CORNERSTONE is a building term - the foundation stones for a home. We need to build our lives on Jesus.

"Jesus said to them: Have you never read the Scriptures? "The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this and it is marvellous in our lives."
                                                                    Matthew 21:42 (NIV)

"Jesus is the "stone the builders rejected, which has become the CORNERSTONE." SALVATION is found in no one else, for there is no other name under Heaven or earth, given to mankind by which we can be SAVED." Acts 4:11&12 (NIV)

These verses were written, reminding us that Jesus died for us, so that we could be saved. Our FOUNDATION in Christ is so strong - we can have courage to stay "safe and secure". You have been chosen by God, to be a light and a foundation for others who seek to know and learn about Christ.

"Seek to live a life that glorifies God, so we can be brought back into Christ - the Cornerstone.  Lord thank you for the new SPIRITUAL HOUSE you are building for us, so we can experience the PRESENCE OF GOD." Nicky Gumbel

"As you come to Him, the LIVING STONE - rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to Him - you also like LIVING STONES are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For in Scripture it says: "See, I lay in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and chose one who trusts in Him will never be put to shame".  1 Peter 2:4-6 (NIV)

"When we build our lives on the SOLID ROCK - JESUS CHRIS. We can be ensured that we are safe and sound, no matter what happens in our lives. When CHRIST is our CORNERSTONE, even our life's storms cannot collapse us." Ruth Chou Simmons

INTROODUCING JESUS - I am the True Vine

                            ABIDE IN THE TRUE VINE

"I am the TRUE VINE and my Father is the VINEDRESSER. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away and every branch that BEARS FRUIT. HE PRUNES, that it may BEAR MORE FRUIT." John 15:1&2 (NKJV)

Jesus is the one and only TRUE VINE. It is one of the most beautiful symbols in the Bible. The story is simple - the best FRUIT comes from the VINE if the VINEDRESSER (Gardener) looks after it.

The baskets are overflowing with GRACE, LOVE AND PEACE when the Father tends the fruit on His Vineyard - His Son and His Children. When we are cared for and we abide in the VINE - JESUS'S LOVE, we can share this fruits with others. The secret to "FRUIT BEARING" is to be free from anxiety  - "LESS DOING AND MORE ABIDING."

"But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of FRUIT in our lives: LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS and SELF CONTROL. There is no law against these things." Galatians 5:22&23 (NLT)

When Jesus told us this story, there were three secrets to Christian's FRUITFULNESS:

1. GARDENING & PRUNING

"God is our Gardener. Vines were abundant in Palestine. They were carefully pruned and produced sweet grapes. The Gardener trimmed the vines, so they could bear more fruit." Max Lucado

"You did not choose me, I chose you. And I gave you this work: to  go and produce FRUIT , FRUIT that will last. Then the Father will give you anything you ask in My Name. This is my command: LOVE EACH OTHER."  John 15:16&17 (NCV)

Most of all the Gardener is GOOD. Pruning is so we can bear more fruit. It may seem harmful at times with "pain, sorrow, sickness, suffering, failure and disappointment". But it can help our fruit GROW and we will will be BLESSED.  The purpose of pruning is develop a new, strong life.

"When the Lord initiates GROWTH he begins the PRUNING. PRUNING leads to CHANGING, ADJUSTING and GROWTH. We will do well with INSTRUCTION, DISCIPLINE and REBUILDING. We need to be PRUNED to bear more fruit." Chip Judd

2. ABIDING IN CHRIST

"Abide in Me and I IN YOU. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless IT ABIDES IN THE VINE, neither can you, unless you ABIDE IN ME." John 15:5 (NKJV)

When we ABIDE IN CHRIST we are developing a relationship and "closeness" with Jesus Himself. We must ABIDE WITH HIM  by "spending time" with Him. We also need to WALK WITH HIM, READ HIS WORD AND FOLLOW HIM.  We cant live "apart from Jesus", by ourselves. We need to ABIDE IN HIM always. He helps us put on our "new nature".

"First, your prayers will be answered, God will be glorified and your joy will be complete and overflowing. Lord thank you for calling me your FRIEND Help me to love others as you have loved me" Nicky Gumbel

"If you remain in me (ABIDE) and my words remain in You (ABIDE), ASK whatever you wish (desire), and it will be done for you. This is to my FATHER'S  GLORY, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples......I have told you (spoken to),  so that JOY may remain  and that JOY may be complete (full)"                                                                                                            John 15:7, 8 & 11  (NIV/NKJV)

3) SHARING TRUTH

"When the FRIEND (Helper) comes, whom I plan to send you from the Father comes - THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH - who proceeds from the Father,  He will confirm (testify) everything about me. You, too, from your side, must give your CONFIRMING EVIDENCE bear witness) since you have been with Me from the start (beginning)." John 15:26 & 27 (MSG/NKJV)

I am a TRUTH CHASER - I want to SHARE THE TRUTH with others, as the HOLY SPIRIT enables me. I need to continue to GROW in my RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS as I study His Word and pray in the Spirit.

We always need TRUTH from Jesus, His Father and the Holy Spirt.  As He said to His disciples He has sent the Holy Spirit to us, so we can share the truth about Him with the Church, and other people.

"But you shall receive power when the HOLY SPIRIT has come upon you; and you shall be WITNESSES TO ME in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."   Acts 1:8 (NKJV)

INTRODUCING JESUS - Resurrection & Life

JESUS IS THE ONLY HOPE FOR RESURRECTION                                                AFTER DEATH!

"I am the RESURRECTION amd the LIFE. Anyone who believes in Me, will LIVE, even after death." John 11:25 (NLT)

Jesus is the only One who gives life after death. He proves this in three ways:

1) When he RAISES LAZARUS FROM THE DEAD.

2) When God RAISES JESUS FROM THE DEAD.

3) He will RAISE US if we believe, and will LIVE WITH HIM in Heaven.

God can do miracles in our lives, but we need to have FAITH and BELIEVE!

"Verily, I say unto you: whoever hears my words and BELIEVES in Him who sent me, has ETERNAL LIFE. He will not be judged, but will pass over from death to LIFE."                                                                                                           John 5:24 (NKJV)

1. THE RAISING OF LAZARUS

Mary and Martha told Jesus that Lazarus was sick.  When Jesus arrived at their home 4 days later, Lazarus was already dead, and he had been buried.  "Jesus wept" (cried) when he stood at the grave of His best friend, Lazarus.

Lazarus' sister Martha came to Him and said: "If you had been here, my brother would not have died". Mary and Martha believed in Jesus' healing power, but they were yet to experience His "resurrection power".

Jesus told his sisters that "your brother will rise again".   Martha believed he would rise again in the "resurrection on the last day".

When Jesus called Lazarus from the grave: "Lazarus, come out". He came out of the tomb, "wrapped with strips of linen and cloths around his face", hands and feet.

"This was not just a request, it was a command. It was a loud announcement. Death answered Him immediately. We too need to listen to Jesus' words and obey Him."
                                                                                                    Nicky Gumbel

2. THE RAISING OF JESUS

Jesus who had no sin, payed the price for our sins, when HE DIED ON THE CROSS. When JESUS ROSE FROM THE DEAD, He still carried the scars he had when He went to cross and was crucified. These wounds remind us of His death and RESURRECTION. When Jesus rose he TRIUMPHED OVER DEATH. Jesus' blood was shed, so that we could be pardoned.

"He was delivered over to death for our sins, and was RAISED TO LIFE for our justification." Romans 4:25 (NIV)

"Jesus' resurrection demonstrated His power and deity. For Jesus, it was not the end, but the beginning." (You Tube)

2)  WE ARE RAISED

"The resurrection power of Jesus is in our Churches today. Hope is the confident expectation of God's utimate blessing in this LIFE and LIFE TO COME"                                                                                                         Nicky Gumbel

We know that we too are RESURRECTED into ETERNAL LIFE. There will be a time when we pass away from this world; but we will enter into ETERNITY IN HEAVEN. When Jesus returns, he will bring with Him the RESURRECTED POWER and He will take us to live with Him.

"Only God can deal with our ultimate death. Life confronts death - and WINS! "                                                                                                                            Max Lucado

"For the Lord Himself will come down from Heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with a trumpet call from God, and THE DEAD IN CHRIST WILL RISE AGAIN. After that, WE WHO ARE STILL ALIVE and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air. And SO WE WILL BE WITH THE LORD FOREVER."  1 Thessalonians 4:16&17  (NIV)

INTRODUCING JESUS - I am the Way, the Truth, the Life

JESUS IN THE ONLY WAY, THE TRUTH AND LIFE

"Jesus told them: "I AM THE WAY, the TRUTH and the LIFE. No one comes to the Father, except through Me." John 14:6 (NLT)

"HE IS THE TRUTH, with no other TRUTH outside of Him. He is LIFE, and the LIFE GIVER HIMSELF, allowing us to live as God intended. HE IS THE WAY. Jesus does not just point us in the right direction - IT'S HIM! HE IS THE WAY!"  You Version

When I became a Christian, the first thing I wanted to do was FOLLOW JESUS - to live the WAY He wanted me to. I wanted to READ HIS WORD so I could know the TRUTH. And most of all as Jesus promised me, I WANTED TO LIVE A LIFE LIKE HIM. There were good times when I served Him, and their were times I wanted to do things MY WAY. But most of the time, I just wanted to sing: "I'LL DO IT GOD'S WAY".

Everyone wants to live a GOOD LIFE, FOLLOWING GOD'S WILL, but we can only do this if we choose the correct path. Jesus already  knew the path He wanted His disciples to follow, just as He does for us. He told them:

"I am going away, but you know where I am going." John 14:4 (NCV)

They didn't understand fully what He said, but one day they would, and they would know what God would want from them. They just needed to TRUST IN HIM and HIS FATHER.

"Therefore, go and make disiciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I hav commanded you. And surely I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:19&20

1. THE WAY

Jesus wants us to choose THE WAY to follow Him and His Father. Jesus is the ONLY WAY TO HIS FATHER. He established Himself as the WAY TO HIS FATHER and is the only way to HOPE AND LOVE.

Everyone needs to grow in their relationship with Jesus and His Father. Take this PATH that leads to this relationship. You have a great WAY to walk with God, to keep going on this path that leads to TRUTH and an "even better LIFE to come."

"Show me YOUR WAYS, Lord, teach me YOUR PATHS." Psalm 1:4 (NIV)

"For I KNOW THE PLANS I have for you", says the Lord, "PLANS to prosper you ands and not to harm you; PLANS to give you a hope and a future."                                                                                                           Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

These are two of my favourite verses. They help me to rely on Jesus and to follow HIS WAY and not my own.

2. THE TRUTH

"TRUST IN THE LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths."                                                                                                            Proverbs 3:5&6 (NKJV)

"If you abide in My Word, you are my disciples indeed. And you shall KNOW THE TRUTH and the TRUTH shall make you free."  John 8:31&32 (NKJV)

You always need TRUTH . Jesus is your best friend, and your relationship with Him will be strengthened. You can live in TRUTH.  What more can I say? There is nothing more I can do but TRUST in my Lord - my Saviour and my Friend. It is by TRUSTING and HOPING in Him, we can have LIFE ETERNAL.

"Jesus is the way and no one comes to the Father , except through Jesus. HE IS THE TRUTH.  To live in the TRUTH in a relationship of love with JESUS WHO IS TRUTH."  Nicky Gumbel

"Do not let your heart be troubled, TRUST (BELIEVE) in God, TRUST  (BELIEVE) also in Me."  John 14:1 (NLT/NKJV)

3. THE LIFE

"If you love Me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father and He will give you another advocate to help you and to be with you forever - the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him or knows Him. But you know Him, for HE LIVES WITH YOU and is in you." John 14:15-17 (NIV)

Jesus dwells among us and HE IS LIFE. He also GIVES US LIFE! Let us LIVE LIFE to the fullest! Jesus is the ONLY ONE who can give us this VICTORY in our NEW LIFE with Him. Jesus is the only way to LIFE ETERNAL, and everyone needs this "new beginning" with Him. It is the BETTER LIFE to come, just like Jesus.

"CHRIST is indeed the WAY, the TRUTH and the LIFE. He is the WAY to the FATHER, there is NO OTHER TRUTH outside HIMSELF. He is the LIFE GIVER allowing us to live as HE LIVES." You Version

INTRODUCING JESUS - I am the Good Shepherd, the Gate and the Lamb.

JESUS TAKES CARE OF HIS OWN

This would have to be one of my favourite promises. It is something I have experienced for many years. Jesus is truly the One I can go to with assurance that He is always with me and has me in His hands.

"Never! Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love (compassion)  for the child she has borne? But even if it were possible, I would not forget you! SEE, I HAVE WRITTEN (ENGRAVED) YOUR NAME ON THE PALMS OF MY HAND. The walls of Jerusalem are ever before me." Isaiah 49:15&16 (NLT/NIV)

One of the most beautiful ways Jesus describes himself  is as the "Good Shepherd". One of Jesus favourite stories was of the SHEPHERD who was SEARCHING for a LOST SHEEP. He still had 99 other sheep, but he went out to search for the sheep that was lost.

This story reminds us of JESUS' LOVE. When we have times when we are lost and afraid, He calls our name.  Jesus' picks us up - HIS SHEEP - and we can feel HIS LOVE, because we know His promise: JESUS TAKES CARE OF HIS OWN.

"The Son of Man came to SEEK and SAVE those who are LOST." Luke 19:10 (NIV)

"We have a GOOD SHEPHERD - HIS NAME IS JESUS CHRIST." Greg Matte

1. I AM THE LAMB OF GOD

"The next day John saw JESUS coming toward him and said: "LOOK, THE LAMB OF GOD, who takes away the sin of the world." John 1:29 (NLT)

Why are LAMBS so important in the Bible? Firstly, the "blood of the lamb" saved the Israelites from slavery. With their Father and His Son Jesus,  they were able to "walk in freedom to the Promised Land."

"The Lord is my strength and my song (defense), He has become MY SALVATION. He is my God and I will praise Him, my father's God and I will exalt Him. With your unfailing love you lead the people You have REDEEMED. In your might (strength) , you will guide them to their sacred home (Your holy dwelling)."                                                                                                               Exodus 15:13  (NIV/NLT)

Secondly, in the time of the Passover, LAMBS were used as a sacrifices. We are reminded in Samuel that "the Lord no longer delights in burnt offerings", but he still wants our "obedience".

Finally, the good news is that we no longer live in Old Testament times. We are reminded that Jesus is our LAMB OF GOD.  Not only did He give His life for us as the SACRIFICIAL LAMB, but we now have FORGIVENESS from our sins, but  we are FREE from any "guilt, shame and worthiness" we may feel.

Jesus is our perfect LAMB OF GOD, "without  defect". He shed His blood for us and we were REDEEMED. But we need to continue to "FOLLOW HIM" and need to put our "TRUST IN HIM"

"For you know that God paid a ransom to save (redeem) us from an empty life you inherited (handed down) from your ancestors. It was not paid with mere gold and silver, which lose their value. It was the PRECIOUS BLOOD OF CHRIST, the sinless (without blemish or defect), the spotless LAMB OF GOD.....Through Him, you BELIEVE (TRUST) IN GOD, who raised Him (Christ) from the dead and glorfified Himm and YOUR FAITH AND HOPE ARE IN GOD." 1 Peter 1:18&19, 21 (NLT/NIV)

"He is the grand champion LAMB that died that DIED ON THE CROSS to WASH YOU CLEAN. The TRUTH and PROMISE changes anyone's life for all eternity."                                                                                                                                   Greg Matte

2. I AM THE GATE

"Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen BY THE GATE, but climbs in some other way, is a thief and a robber. The one who enters THE GATE is the SHEPHERD OF THE SHEEP. THE GATEKEEPER OPENS THE GATE foor Him and the sheep listen to His voice. He calls His own sheep by name and leads them out. When He has brought out all of His own , He goes ahead of them, and HIS SHEEP FOLLOW HIM because they know His voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize the stranger's voice." John 10:1-5 (NIV)

Each SHEPHERD has a special call for HIS SHEEP, and this is the only VOICE they listen to  and follow. The sheep are in an enclosure and they get led out only when their SHEPHERD calls them. At the end of the day the SHEPHERD returns his flock THROUGH THE GATE. He checks for injuries and looks around for predators. What a beautiful picture of JESUS, THE SHEPHERD - HIS LOVE AND PROTECTION.

Recently we bought a new puppy. She has a tendency and running under the gate, and we need to call her to come back in. But at night time, Elsa curls up on Mark's knee and won't leave his side until he goes up to bed. She settles at night on her bed, but we have to close our bedroom door or she comes up to the door early in the morning. Mark usually opens the door, because he loves his morning cuddles.

Jesus calls himself the GATE (DOOR). We need to listen to His voice, for he wants us to come through the door to spend time close to Him.

"I AM THE GATE, whoever enters (come in) through Me will be saved. They will come in and find pasture. The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy; I HAVE COME so that THEY MAY HAVE LIFE , and have it to the FULL (rich and satisfying)"                                                                                                           John 10:11 (NIV/NLT)

"JESUS PROTECTS US, KEEPS US SAFE AND LEADS US DOWN NEW PATHS. Lord, help us to find the DOOR - in every situation. Help us to hear you and see you, so we can FOLLOW YOUR PATH, and WALK THROUGH THE GATE with YOU AT OUR SIDE." Nicky Gumbel

3. I AM THE GOOD SHEPHERD

Jesus, our SHEPHERD spends time with HIS SHEEP, leading to "intimacy and familiarity". He calls HIS SHEEP by name. He has a difficult task at times - CARING, PROTECTING and LOVING them. The sheep need to LISTEN TO HIS VOICE and TRUST IN HIM.

"I am the GOOD SHEPHERD. The GOOD SHEPHERD sacrifices HIS LIFE, FOR THE SHEEP.....I am the GOOD SHEPHERD; I know my own sheep and they know me, just as My Father knows Me and  I know the Father. So I sacrifice my life for My sheep. I have OTHER SHEEP too, but they are not in MY SHEEPFOLD. I must bring them also. They will listen to my voice  and there will be ONE FLOCK WITH ONE SHEPHERD."                                                                                                           John 10:14-16 (NLT)

As Jesus' sheep, in his sheepfold, there are three things we need to do: BELIEVE IN JESUS - TRUSTING IN our SHEPHERD; KNOW AND LISTEN TO HIS VOICE, and FOLLOW HIM.  This is the "declaration" we have as Christians, and we will also follow His example of LOVE.

Jesus promises us that our relationship with Him will GROW. We will never perish, and we "cannot be snatched out His hand".

"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me. I GIVE THEM ETERNAL LIFE, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them from me."                                                                                            John 10:27&28 (NLT)

"We may have many struggles  and temptations along the way, but ultimately the hand of Jesus and His Father are engaged together to protect you. With liberty (freedom) and eternal life, we can never perish." Nicky Grumbel

INTRODUCING JESUS - I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE

I WILL NEVER BE HUNGRY OR THIRSTY

"I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty." John 6:25 (NLT)

This is one of my favourite I AM messages. Why? Well, as a child and as I grew older, one of my favourite parts of worship, was COMMUMION. Over the years I just loved going to Church and meeting with by "brothers and sisters" in Christ.  I loved being in FELLOWSHIP with them; but also being ONE with my Father and Jesus.

In this picture "The Bread of Life", we have the BREAD, the CROSS reminding us of what Jesus did for us, giving us life. But more than that I just love the BIBLE - GOD'S WORD.

"For God so loved the world, He gave his only SON, that whoever believes in Him, will not perish, but will have eternal life." John 3:16

1) THE BREAD OF LIFE

Jesus is not offering us here the opportunity to meet our physical needs - to have our hunger and thirst satisfied., but Jesus wants to meet our SPIRITUAL needs. We can develop our relationship with Jesus. Jesus satisfies every need we have , EVERYDAY.

"Faith in Jesus fills the emptiness we have experienced and satisfies our SPIRITUAL HUNGER for PURPOSE AND PARDON." Nicky Gumbel.

At the the "Feeding of the 5000" , Jesus multiplied the BREAD and the FISH to satisfy the hunger of men, women and children. Yet He even gave the a "spiritual feast". It was not just a miracle, but Jesus "painted Himself" as the BREAD OF LIFE.

"I tell you the truth, Moses did not give you BREAD from Heaven. MY FATHER DID! And now He offers you the TRUE BREAD FROM HEAVEN. The TRUE BREAD of God, is the One who comes down from Heaven and gives LIFE to the world." John 6:17 (NLT)

No one else except Jesus has claimed to fulfil our spiritual hunger by giving His body. At the Lord's Supper (communion)  we can be can sit at Jesus' table, just as His disciples did. Jesus heart was "troubled" and knew He would "be abandoned" by them, at the CROSS, Yet He is still our COMFORTER AND PROVIDER.

Jesus still invites us to SIT AT HIS TABLE and to FOLLOW HIM. He turns our hunger into a "A JOURNEY OF LIFE" and He meets all our spiritual needs, calming our fears and anxieties. Jesus has set a place for you. All you need to do is "COME TO HIS TABLE." You may be hungry, but you can leave HIS PRESENCE fulfilled.

"For it is my Father's will is that everyone who LOOKS TO HIS SON and BELIEVES IN HIM, will have ETERNAL LIFE, and I will raise Him up on the last day." John 6:40 (NLT)

2) QUENCHING OUR THIRST

"Jesus said: "Of you only knew the GIFT God has for you, and WHO YOU ARE SPEAKING TO, you would ask Me, and I would give you LIVING WATER."

"But sir, you don't have a rope or a bucket," she said, "and the well is very deep. Where would you get this LIVING WATER?"....

"Jesus replied, "Anyone who drinks this water, will soon become thirsty again.  But those who DRINK THIS WATER I GIVE, WILL NEVER BE THIRSTY AGAIN. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring WITHIN THEM, giving them ETERNAL LIFE." John 4:10-11, 13&14 (NLT)

Although the Jews did not get on with Samaritans, Jesus went  through  their home "intentionally". He wanted to meet with woman, so He could share His message of FORGIVENESS and WORSHIP. Even the disciples had doubts when he spoke with her, but this Samaritan woman was full of "amazement", when her thirst was quenched, and He told her His secret: "I AM THE MESSIAH".

3) THE MESSIAH - KING OF KINGS

"The woman said: "I know the Messiah is coming". (Messiah is the One called CHRIST (KING OF KINGS). When the Messiah comes, He will explain everything to us.".

Then Jesus said: "I AM HE - I, the ONE talking to you......"

"Then the woman left her water jar and went back to town. She said to the people: "Come and see the man who told me everything I had ever did. Do you think He might be CHRIST?" So the people left the town and went to see Jesus." John 4:25&26, 28-30 (NCV)

The Messiah - Jesus Christ had every right to claim "SOVEREIGNTY". He was the KING OF KINGS and LORD OF LORDS. Jesus was clear with His teaching - HE WAS THE MESSIAH.

"Because Jesus is the KING OF KINGS, He rules over every circumstance we face. Jesus truly is the MESSIAH - the MATCHLESS KING. There is no greater SOVEREIGN. He is everything a KING should be."  Ruth Chou Simmons
