INTRODUCING JESUS - I AM THE WORD

WE LOVE THE WORD - THE LORD JESUS

"In the beginning was THE WORD and THE WORD was with GOD, and the WORD WAS GOD. He was in the beginning with God"  John 1:1&2 (NKJV)

"There is no one like JESUS! Jesus is different from any other human being. His perfect righteosness came from God." Nicky Gumbel

John's Gospel opens a wonderful description of JESUS as THE WORD. He was in the beginning with His Father. The whole of John's gospel tells us about the humanity of Jesus  and His righteousness and holiness (glory) that He has with His Father. His opening words were for all people - Jews and Gentiles - but "He also moves into our neighbourhood" (Message).

"Leaving His Heavenly home, Jesus put on human flesh, to bring us GOOD NEWS.  For 33 years He felt everything you and I feel. He was weary, weak and afraid if failure, His feelings were hurt, his feet were tired and his head ached.  Yet John also highlights Jesus' divine nature. Jesus was GOD, the Holy Creator of life. God had COME NEAR....                                                                                                                   Max Lucado

1. I AM THE WORD

"And the WORD BECAME FLESH and dwelt among us. We have seen HIS GLORY, the GLORY of the ONE AND ONLY SON, who came from the Father, full of GRACE AND TRUTH."  John 1:14 (NKJV/NIV)

The concept of JESUS as THE WORD may seem strange, but it was very important to the Jews and the Greeks.  They knew, that the Messiah they were waiting for, was the Son of God, and he was with His Father at the beginning of creation - right back to Genesis.

"In the beginning GOD CREATED the Heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the SPIRIT OF GOD was hovering over the waters." Genesis 1:1&2 (NIV)

The Greek readers had been searching for the true "meaning of life".  It was "absolutely clear" that the WORD John is writing about was JESUS. He was with God right at the beginning, "THE WORD WAS GOD" (Message).

"Everything was created through Him. Nothing - not one thing came into being without Him. All things were made; without HIM nothing was made that was made."   John 1:3 (MSG/NIV)

"He is the image of the invisible God, the firsborn over all creation. For by Him, all things were created and are in Heaven and are on the earth, visible or invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalaties and powers. All things were created through Him and for Him." Colossians 1:15&16 (NKJV)

2. FATHER GOD

"He was in the beginning with GOD. All things were made through Him. and without Him nothing was made that was made." John 1:1-3 (NKJV) and the Father are ONE.....Then you will know and understand that the FATHER IS IN ME, AND I AM IN THE FATHER." John 10:30&38b (NLT)

Jesus and His Father are the SAME! No one can take us from their hands and they are both OMNIPOTENT (all powerful), and OMNISPRESENT (with us always). Remember the WORDS OF PROMISES of Jesus. He is the SAME AS HIS FATHER and THEY ARE ONE.

"Jesus shouted to the crowds: "If you TRUST ME, you are TRUSTING NOT ONLY ME, BUT ALSO THE GOD WHO SENT ME." John 12:44 (NLT)

"Don't you believe that I AM IN THE FATHER, and the FATHER IS IN ME? The words I speak to you are not my own, but the FATHER WHO LIVES IN ME does His work through me. Just believe that I AM IN THE FATHER and the FATHER IS IN ME. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do." John 14:10&11 (NLT)

 3. GRACE AND TRUTH

"Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe (TRUST) in God, believe (TRUST) also in me." John 14:1 (NIV/NLT)

"Jesus said to the people who believed in Him, "You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And YOU WILL KNOW THE TRUTH AND THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE." John 8:31&32 (NLT)

You always need TRUTH. Your relationship with Jesus is strengthened when we TRUST IN HIM.  Jesus is the TRUTH, and we can only come to the Father through Him. The WORD became flesh and dwelt among us. He is our GRACE AND TRUTH.  We need to learn more about Him by dwelling on HIS WORD everyday, as we GROW in our relationship with Him and His Father.

"Let Jesus be as human as He was intended to be. Let Him into the mire and muck of this world. For only if we let Him in can He pull us out. We can also know Jesus, as we know God, our Father." Max Lucado

"Jesus, we worship You today, the unique WORD OF GOD. We pray today that we can have a deeper relationship with You and Your Father. You are our great CREATOR, LIGHT and TRANSFORMER OF OUR LIFE AND REVEALER OF GOD to us."                                                                                               Nicky Gumble
