6. JESUS HEALS THE SIGHT FOR THE BLIND
Read Luke 18:35-43
As Jesus nears Jericho, on His way to Jerusalem, a blind man was begging beside the road. He cried out:
"Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me." Luke 18:38 (NIV)
The people tried to stop Him, but he continued crying out. Jesus stopped and ordered the man to come over to Him. They brought the man to Him and Jesus asked Him:
"What do you want me to do for you?"
"Lord, I want to see", he replied.
Jesus said to him: "Receive your sight; for faith has healed you."
The blind man immediately received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When the people saw it, they also praised God." Luke 18:41-43 (NIV)
"The blind man is an example of some whose life was totally transformed by an encounter with Jesus. His life had ended, by sitting by the roadside begging, but it was transformed by Jesus' mercy." Nicky Gumbel
Jesus healead many blind people, and then went on to the deaf. Isaiah had predicted these in his prophecies.
"And when HE COMES, "HE WILL OPEN THE EYES OF THE BLIND and unplug the ears of the deaf." Isaiah 35:5 (NCV)
7. JESUS HEALED THE DEAF & MUTE
Read Mark 7:31-37
Jesus went to many towns newar the Sea of Galilee and in the Greek "Decapolis". With Jesus' compassion, He saw the deaf man, and took him away from the crowd. Why did he do this? Maybe this was something he wanted to do with just a simple PRAYER, with His HOLY SPIRIT.
"He put His fingers in His ears and then spit and touched the man's tongue. Looking up to Heaven, he said to the man:
"Ephpphata", (this means) be opened. Immediately, he was able to use His tongue and speak clearly." Mark 7:33-35 (NCV)
This man was deaf, and also had a speech impediement - Jesus was able to use "sign language". Jesus sighed, because he really felt for the man - he gave him HOPE AND COMFORT. Jesus understands our sighs, anxieties and pains, and his "sighs" show His regnotion and understanding of our needs.
"The HOLY SIGH, assures us that GOD STILL GROANS FOR HIS PEOPLE, and one day all our SIGHS WILL CEASE." Max Lucado
